My students are a naturally curious bunch. They love to learn about faraway places, new technology, things of the past, and dream about the future. They are most excited when they have opportunities to experience hands-on activities.
I teach third graders at a Title 1 School in Michigan, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is in a rural, tight knit community. Some students have explored areas beyond their community but most have never left our state. I would love for my students to be able to consider life outside of our community and the variety of options they will have for future careers.
My Project
In order to better prepare my students for real world experiences, we need resources to learn about money. My students lack the hands-on experience of counting coins and bills. Many cannot identify coins yet and need the materials to manipulate. The board games will give my students the practice and confidence they need in order to use these skills in the real world. The books will provide them with additional background about the economy and their role as a consumer.
My students will learn life skills such as counting coins, making change, and using money responsibly.
My students are eager to learn about money but lack the resources to do so. All students deserve the opportunity to build their financial literacy.
