Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of a diverse group of learners. My classroom has 26 second grade students from varying abilities. The socioeconomic background of our students is more than 90% poverty level. I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diverse cultures from all over the world. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Our school saying is Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today! I want to make their tomorrow better!
My Project
Our financial literacy unit needs Self inking Coin Stamps, Whiteboards, Reuseable Write and Wipe Pockets, Magnetic Coins and Saving and Spending Hands on Activities. Hands on materials like Money Power Pens and Quiz Cards will enhance center activities daily. These materials will be used in conjunction with materials already funded with Part 1 and 2 Financial Literacy in Second Grade projects this year. Let's Pretend Restaurant Writing Box will allow kids to create menus and assign prices to food items. Kids will pretend to order items and fill out a guest check. Then they will pay for guest checks and administer change with our cash registers from Part 2 of our funded Project.
Students will enjoy using the Producers and Consumers and Saving and Spending Activity Centers to learn to be fiscally responsible citizens.
We will use magnetic coins and white boards to create money problems for a group of students to figure out. Students can manipulate magnetic coins to add them up to see what the total would be and then practice writing the total correctly on the white boards.
At centers students can make their own problems by using the Self Inking Stamp Set. They can create a few problems on paper and then put the sheet into the Wipe Off Sleeve and have someone else answer the problem. Financial literacy is an important topic that Second Graders work on year long to develop and master. Second Graders enjoy learning finances and they excel when the materials are hands on and exciting! I'm so excited to teach financial literacy this year with all of these hands on kits and materials!
