My students need magnetic money, counting coins, a market learning center, math tools, ice cream food cart, and a market food center with a cash register to build foundational skills in financial literacy.
A typical day in our classroom starts with a delicious breakfast provided by our wonderful school kitchen. Our school district is 100% free breakfast and lunch to all students because we understand that hungry minds need full bellies. Our school is a wonderful community of diverse families who support each other.
My students are kind, responsible, and respectful.
They uphold these titles with pride and can be seen daily trying to make our school and classroom a better place. We provide a nurturing environment that creates good citizens, independent thinkers, and lifelong learners. We are a lively group of students who are eager to learn new things with innovative tools.
My Project
My kindergarten students need to learn the basics of addition, subtraction, place value, number recognition, and one to one correspondence. These are all foundational skills students need so that they can become financially literate. My students will practice being consumers and entrepreneurs in the dramatic play grocery store and ice cream shop. Students will come away from using these materials with a greater understanding of counting, addition, subtraction, money exchanges, goods and services, and wants vs. needs. They will be on the right path to developing financial literacy.
These items will teach financial literacy through purposeful play and classroom games; making learning fun!
