Save our city! Our school is located in a poverty stricken district. What better way to help students help themselves but teaching students financial skills so they can help break the cycle of poverty with knowledge of how money works for and the tools to manage money.
My middle school students attend school in one of the largest middle schools on the east coast, in a district that has not fully funded its' education system in over a decade .
Many of my students come from a cycle of poverty that goes back decades. They often do not value education because it is not presented in a way they feel will impact their life. Learning Financial literacy, a new course at our school this year, can help them break this cycle!
My Project
Through the use of the materials I have requested I am excited to be able to use them to engage my students in real world scenarios and support their learning of practical "money" math. I see my students entering a classroom that presents a wide array of information on life long practical math skills that will help them be successful contributing members of our community.
My project is important because having the skills to manage money will help my students understand that they have the power to break the cycle of poverty and overcome the challenges that poverty presents by setting goals and being realistic about money!
