My Students
"Hey, I'll give you a dollar for your eraser." I hear this between students every year. My students need to understand the values associated with products and services, and how money is used. They need to be financially literate.
Our school is a multicultural program improvement school.
Our percentage of students performing at proficient and advanced levels in math is below what is required. There are no teachers aides or instructional assistants for the regular education classroom. Teachers must provide their own intervention along with district-wide computer based programs. We must develop and plan various activities, in all subjects, to meet the needs of our students.
My Project
This project will enable me to instruct my students in financial literacy using the resources recommended by the California Department of Education. The chart paper, markers, and paper making kit are materials necessary to teach financial literacy using, the lessons provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The curriculum provides step by step plans to teach a variety of topics including: Financial Responsibility, Credit and Debt, Income and Careers, Taxes, and Waste and Recycling. These engaging interactive lessons are related to real life math situations the students must master with the new Common Core Math Standards & Mathematical Practices.
Your donations will help me to prepare my students to use critical thinking skills with whatever budget they have.
They need to have these skills mastered before they actually have financial responsibilities. They will begin to look at their birthday money and school and community fundraising in a more analytical way. You will be helping to develop a more financially literate generation.
