Our school is made up of about 800 students. We have a mix of races and socioeconomic backgrounds. We also have a large military population, so many of our military students come and go throughout the year. Our school, teachers, and students work hard each day. The school has received many awards and is a Blue Ribbon school.
I teach about 60 fifth graders each day.
We work hard each day to ensure that all our students have the very best instruction. There is not a better job than teaching fifth graders math and science! We are always looking for fun and innovative ways to make learning the best for each student.
My Project
In 5th grade, a large portion of the skills we teach is decimals. These are important life skills as they relate to money and budgeting. Giving students hands-on materials to visually see these decimals is so important to give them a deeper understanding of what they are learning. Through this, this also gives them a better understanding of money and budgeting. I'm requesting Fraction Model Multipliers, Decimal Squares, Decimal Operations Grids, and a Decimal Kit.
With these visual models and large Connect 4, I would like to create a fun game for students to review decimals, money and budgeting.
Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals are also another huge part of what students must master by the end of the school year. Tying this back into money and budgeting with this fun game will be such a fun way to review all that we have learned with decimals and money.
