Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our children love to come to school. We promote fitness and moving throughout the day. We begin each day with dancing. During recess, the students participate in fun, structured fitness activities. We are always looking for ways to keep kids fit! Why not promote financial fitness too?
My students are very high energy kids.
They are always eager to get moving and learn something new. Physical fitness is a big part of our school's focus. Our school is a Title I school and 100% of our students are eligible to receive free lunch. Our school serves about 450 students and has a very close family style atmosphere. We take pride in our school and strive to keep improving so that our students become the best that they can be!
My Project
Interactive games are very popular in our school. As part of Family Financial Literacy Fun Day, our students would use electronic games like Visa's Financial Football and Financial Soccer using an iPad to sharpen their financial literacy, money and math skills. Students will work on teams to strategize how to earn the most points for their team by making smart money decisions. This lesson will be extended by teaching the students how to play flag football and soccer to correlate with the Financial Football and Financial Soccer. Students will also play Dodgeball Debt, where they will name things that cause debt as they aim the dodge ball at an opponent.
These money games will help the students learn to work cooperatively being physically fit while also learning how to be financially savvy.
The students will develop team building skills and strategies while acquiring skills about financial literacy using enjoyable interactive money games. They will be able to these skills use throughout their lives.
