Do you remember learning to count money? My students are just beginning to learn the value of different coins. They are also beginning to learn how to read.
I teach 22 first graders in a Title 1 school in Pennsylvania.
My school is located in a high crime and high poverty area. All of the students at my school receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of my students come from homes where English is not the spoken language.
My Project
I would like my students to learn the value of different coins. It is very important for them to know how to add coins as well as make change. I am requesting math workbooks in order to help my first graders improve their math and money skills. I am also hoping to provide my students with 2 Nooks in order for them to read stories about money. There are many engaging math stories on the Nook such as "The Child who finds Money", "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money" and "Morgan and the Money".
Please help my first graders learn the value of money.
It is important that they learn about money at an early age. I would love if my students would learn how to count money as well as read about how to be money savvy.
