Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in the eighth grade and are, on average, thirteen years old. These students are also served in the general education classroom in the inclusion program. I work with them in the general education classroom where I provide interventions in reading, writing, and math to help them progress through grade levels.
A majority of the students are English language learners.
They particularly need hands-on and computer online-based programs to help them improve their grade-level skills, given that all of them function two or three levels below grade level. The school serves mostly underprivileged students with a diverse staff.
My Project
My students are about to transition to high school and are required to learn independent living skills to begin thinking about the future. This includes beginning to think about rent and all that comes with it. In this project, students learn the steps of acquiring an apartment such as the cost of moving, preparing a budget, budgeting to move, a lease agreement, rights and responsibilities of tenants, and the rights and responsibilities of landlords. Students will research books online, read and write an objective summary of the steps in acquiring an apartment in the future in order to live independently.
