Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education Resource Teacher. I service students with varying needs in several regular education classrooms at my school. My students are energetic and inquisitive! They enjoy coming to my resource classroom for targeted lessons in reading, writing, and/or math in their area of need and also for any additional help with their class work.
I help students try to achieve closer to grade level in Reading, Writing, and/or Mathematics.
Many of my students need additional help to reach grade level and access grade level curriculum. I work closely with the Classroom Teachers and Reading and Math Coaches to design lessons to help meet the needs of my students in a small group setting in my resource classroom.
I enjoy working with my students and many additional students that are grouped with my students to engage them with hands on lessons and materials to help meet their individual learning needs.
My Project
My students are at varying levels in Mathematics. Some are working on a Pre-K level while others are on a Grade 2 level in Mathematics. Having the Kindergarten School Readiness Kit will allow me to challenge my Pre-K learners while also reinforcing my Kindergarten and Second Grade learners skills through targeted small group instruction.
My students need hands on math materials to help them reach grade level expectations and perform like their typical peers in the regular education classroom.
I take small groups of learners who are below level and help them to better understand skills and concepts so they will progress in school.
Having the Jumbo Magnetic Ten-Frames Set, Pop to 30 game, Beginning Operations Folder Game Library and Numbers to 100 Match Up set will allow my students to work on numeracy skills which will build the foundation for financial literacy skills.
We will use the Let's Pretend Restaurant Writing Box to play restaurant in a small group. The students will display items and pricing on the magnetic board and then take turns writing out guest checks to add up the money amounts they owe. We will have play money at hand to pay and receive change for each learner. Starting to teach financial literacy at the Kindergarten level allows children to keep building on their skills year after year to be financially savvy and able to become financially responsible young adults in later grades.
