I teach an exceptional group of students in a rural school in Southwest Missouri. My students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds and that can create challenges to meeting the needs of all my students. Our school works hard to provide opportunities for our students as we struggle with diminishing budgets.
My students show grit and determination on a daily basis as they face life in school and our rural, farm community.
I am working to give them every advantage possible to expose them to the wide world around them. This includes teaching them the importance of finances in their life. My students are eager to try new things and are not afraid of making mistakes in the process.
My Project
The mission of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is to help educators around the world use technology to solve tough problems in education. This helps me to provide not only academic instruction, but life experiences to create students who understand the world outside of our small, rural community.
This project will provide the registration cost for the conference along with a portion of the food costs while I am attending the national ISTE convention, scheduled for June 2019, in Philadelphia, PA.
Attending this national conference will allow me access to interactive, inspirational and highly relevant professional learning opportunities, including the best way to teach financial literacy in a way that is relevant to students today.
I will have a choice of hundreds of sessions in a variety of formats, including lectures and hands-on learning environments. I'll also be able to hear three powerful keynote presentations on big ideas from the field of education and beyond.
