My students need to enhance their opportunities to work with mathematical and financial concepts through books, games, and writing of numbers. Students are more engaged when the activities apply to real life concepts through their eyes.
The students in my class are learning and growing in a small school of kindergarten through 5th grade students. Students get excited about learning and take pride in their work. They are responsible and respectful of their classroom; they take ownership by helping to clean the classroom and care for materials as well as for each other.
My students meet once per week with their 2nd grade buddies; they all love to learn and grow together.
My goal is to have every student feel empowered, encouraged, and accepted. If that is accomplished, then students are able to concentrate on developing personal skills. The students in my classroom are all working on individual goals and their instruction is differentiated to help accomplish those goals.
My Project
This project will not only benefit the kindergarten students in our class, but also our 2nd grade buddy class. Once per week we meet with our buddies for engaging, academic challenges. These math games and activities will be engaging and beneficial for all. With the pop-up games, students are required to count, create problems, write numbers, and find solutions all with fun math manipulatives such as dog bones, cherries, and ducklings.
These games are differentiated so that students of many levels can enjoy success.
Students will also enjoy the math folder games as they give many opportunities for financial practice with friends. Students will play and learn about counting and place value, measurement and data, operations, and geometry. These ready to use games allow students to check their own work which gives them instant reinforcement.
Finally, the math books will be read over and over again, year after year, to many children. These books will provide a variety of financial literacy practice with coins and money, measurement, geometry, counting, time, graphing, and patterns.
