Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to my close-knit community of learners. My twenty-three first graders are eager to learn and grow. Although many of these students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, they come to school each day ready to learn and socialize with their peers. Many of my students are English Language learners.
As their teacher, I try my hardest to promote a love for learning and social-emotional well-being.
I want our classroom to be a comfortable, safe and respectful place where every learner can succeed. I try to give them the best experience possible, providing them with resources they might not be exposed to.
This past year we went from fully remote to hybrid. I am welcoming first graders who some have never been to school before. I want to make this transition back to school as smooth and comfortable as possible for them.
My Project
My first graders will be new to our school starting in September. After this past school year, many of them have not been to school before. This is going to be a big adjustment for them. I am lucky enough to have a daily read aloud slot in my schedule where I can sit my class on the rug and read to them. I chose books that reflect their culture and books that will teach them about the cultures surrounding them. I also picked classic picture books and books that teach about social-emotional learning, after this crazy year! I also added in books about Christmas and winter since these are lacking in my classroom library.
I am looking forward to finally reuniting my students on the rug and sharing the joy of reading to them.
This has been something I haven't been able to do in over a year! With your help, I am excited to share these books with my future first graders!
