I am a first year teacher in a first grade classroom with students who are all on the spectrum. My students all have specific disabilities that make learning a little more difficult then usual students. My students are fun, kind, and have big hearts. These student do get frustrated easily and sometimes need a break to regroup themselves.
These students love activities that are hands on because it keeps their senses going and they can feel what they are doing.
My Project
Having these materials in my class could make a huge difference when someone is having a melt down or needs to take a second to collect themselves by giving them that space they may need. This gives them a quiet place to get away from what is making them angry and have something to feel that will calm them down. The tent will give them that space they may need and some sort of privacy where they won’t feel like everyone is staring at them or making them uncomfortable. The sensory pillows are all different textures for those students who like to feel things to help calm down. There are six different textures so they will have a variety for their specific feeling.
We all know that a little me time goes a long way.
The white boards will be used to them learning writing in a fun, engaging, colorful way. The more my students have hands on learning, the better they will retain the information.
