In my district our school is referred to as the one room school because we have only one grade per grade level. We see this as a strength because our students build bonds with each and with all of our teachers.
We instill the values of learning and growing together with each of our students.
We have only one hundred thirty-nine students that attend our small rural school. We know each other like family and support each other. We foster positive character traits such as acceptance, integrity and support. We work together so that we all succeed. At this school no one gets left behind!
Many students are consumers of content. My students want to create video content! My students want to create videos about books! My students want to create review books and book trailers to persuade other students around the world to read books!
My students will be more engaged and motivated to read more books and engaged in the stories because they will share their learning with others by creating videos to entice others to read books!
Students will be using a variety of skills when they create these videos. They have to write their reviews/scripts. They have to create their own visual art for their props. They have to practice their writing skills, speaking skills, listening skills, and collaboration skills. All of these skills are important skills that all students need to practice and strengthen.
The best part about having this one iPad is that my students from this little rural school will get to share their learning about books by creating videos to share with other students locally and around the world! This will motivate and inspire students to learn more and share more.
