I need funding for a virtual trip to the Pathfinders Institute. I will learn to use and teach cutting-edge computer software to create presentations and films. Kids will be excited to be doers and designers!

My Students
I am a second-year librarian at a Title I middle school -- 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I was a classroom teacher for more than two decades before moving to the library. I love my job -- having the time to spend with kids and books and technology is such a kick! The students at my school are amazing! They come to school in a high poverty neighborhood from a variety of living situations: motel rooms, shared housing, trailer parks, and crowded apartments. It's not easy to keep the focus on where they are headed, rather than the situations they are leaving.
The thing is, they still keep coming to school -- and when they get to school, I want it to be worth it!
I want them to be excited about their education; I want them to find what they are looking for and have the ability to showcase their new knowledge. I want them to create!
My Project
The Pathfinders Institute, usually held in-person, has gone virtual for 2021. I'm thrilled to have been accepted to Lights! Camera! Action! Visual Storytelling through Filmmaking. It's the right training at the right time for me. As a teacher-librarian, I can use this training to reach every student at my school.
It's time for students to put some WOW into their projects -- and they will need me to have the skills to get them there!
This institute will provide training in filmmaking, editing, animation -- along with access to the software tools needed. This will take the kids from NOW to WOW!
