My Students

My students are from a small rural community. We have four towns that feed into our district. Our school is made up of kindergarten through 3rd grade. We have 5 sections of each. My students are very eager to learn and love having the opportunity to explore new things.

The students in my classroom are very active and inquisitive.

They love to learn new things, build things and make slime. They surprise me every day with the new things they say and do. I am honored to be able to spend time with these students every day and watch them learn and grow.

My Project

My students are at a crucial age where they are just hitting their stride in reading. They know how to read, now all they need is that right book to make them fall in love with reading. In order to accomplish that, we need a variety of high interest books to meet the needs of our students. Students are asked to read every day during guided reading and I want to make this a worthwhile part of their day by providing some high quality, engaging books for them to read.

There is no greater gift you can give a student than the love of a good book.

When I was in second grade, I struggled with reading. One of the best things I was ever given was a great series to read. When students are given books that interest them, we can begin to bridge the gap between students reading because they have to and students reading because they love what they are reading!

When generating this project, I wanted to choose books that would interest my students. They are currently obsessed with graphic novels so I picked books based on that. I chose books like: Trapped in a Video Game, Klawde, and Disaster Strikes. I am hoping to find more book series that they can fall in love with.
