My students need Pete the Cat themed Hot Dots Jr sets to encourage them to be excited about reading and math. These kits will help them to master basic Pre-k and Kindergarten skills.
The students at our school are absolutely amazing. It is an absolute privilege to see them learn each day. They whole heartedly love being challenged to create things and to improve their level of success in reading and math. Many of our students come from homes that would be qualified as having a lower socioeconomic status and they just don't have the resources at home to practice reading and math on a regular basis. Anytime we are able to present them with an opportunity to spark interest in these areas they become excited. Combining building , creating, and learning only furthers that excitement.
The empowerment that these children gain from the opportunity to succeed using various materials in the classroom is a joy to see!
My Project
Each of the items I have selected for this project will "fill in a hole' I've identified throughout this school year. I've been able to pinpoint that my students need a little extra push in the areas of fine motor and early reading/math skills. I plan to use the Hot Dogs Jr. Sets in my small intervention groups. My students love Pete the Cat, so I know they will be excited about having Pete help them learn reading and math skills. I have been very blessed to get a new fluency program for the early readers on my case load, but the students need the binders to organize their materials. They have already begun to see success with the program and they will be thrilled to have their own binders now. The Froggy Frenzy game and the Fruit Avalanche will help to strengthen those hand muscles of my youngest learners. They are working so hard to write their names and hold their pencils. These materials will provide some fun ways for us to continue working on those skills. Both of those resources will help to work specifically on their grasp and strengthening key muscles for writing. I will also use those in small group instruction al times. The Pre K and Kindergarten students will be thrilled to work with the alphabet acorns. They will be able to sort tactile objects by beginning sounds. That's just one more fun way to work on phonetic awareness skills!! They will also continue working on fine motor when they are taking apart and putting the acorns back together.
