Our program opened in September, 2015. We are a part of the Bremerton School District but we are able to serve students in all of Kitsap County. We provide a combination of opportunities for our students ages 16-21: high school completion, GED completion, job skills, career building, industry guest speakers, field trips, industry certificates. We provide everything at no cost and with the goal of helping students improve skills in order to get into a job or field that interests them. This June, we had two high school graduates and twenty GED completions.
We have a drop-in schedule in order to provide flexibility for our students' busy lives (many of them work and/or have families).
With such hectic schedules and home lives, these students are continuing to put their education first. They are hardworking in the face of adversity and we see them as heroes.
My Project
Many of our students are homeless; either couch surfing, sleeping on someone's floor, or living in a tent or car. Some places our students stay require them to bring food in order to stay.
They struggle to find food that they can easily prepare and eat that is both nutritional and filling.
These donations will help our students get the food, as much as possible, that they need.
Good food and enough of it is what helps our brains function well. When we are able to provide food to our homeless students, we see their attendance and academic progress increase!
