I am a speech-language pathologist who currently provides direct services to over 60 students in three inner-city schools in CT. My students have a variety of disabilities including autism, intellectual delays, fluency disorders, as well as a wide variety of speech and language disorders that impact their success in school. I service both regular education students as well as self-contained special education classrooms. Most of my students have a hard time communicating their thoughts in and out of the classroom. They need supports to help them succeed both academically and socially.
My Project
Last year I started a food pantry that I filled with healthy grab and go snacks. The students I service come to me daily and request items to have to start the day as well as grab something to take home in their backpack so the pantry runs out of food quickly. I am requesting a variety of healthy grab and go snacks, such as fruit snacks, hot chocolate packets, goldfish crackers, breakfast bars, mac and cheese and a variety of snack packs to fill up the pantry.
This project will add individual sized snacks to the pantry where my students can come in during the day and grab an item to eat in school to start the day or take home so they know they will have something for later.
Please help me fill the pantry so my kids have access to healthy snacks and easy to cook foods. I want to make sure all my students are ready to learn and have access to food and don't have to worry about when their next meal will be.
