Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consist of 20 third graders in a Title I school in a low income community outside of Greenville, South Carolina. My students come from various backgrounds and often school is the only stability in their lives. My students are eager learners, entering the classroom with fist bumps and greetings each morning. Our morning meetings are filled with social interaction and conversation that have transformed student peers into a classroom family.
I teach math wizards, spelling bee champs, history hounds, mad scientist, and reading all stars.
It's a joy to teach in room 240 where "happy campers" is not just the saying on the door but an attitude of education enjoyment as the students grow in character and knowledge.
My Project
A good classroom library is essential for good instruction. My project will help fill my classroom library with new nonfiction books and also provide Time Magazine for Kids to aid in literacy instruction. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. These books have been chosen with my students in mind to provide nonfiction content that are high interest.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read about nonfiction topics independently on their own grade level.
This project will enhance my classroom library and provide interesting nonfiction books and magazines that cover grade level content that is interesting to third grade students.
