My students need a library! As a small school without one, the only books my classroom has are ones friends have donated or I have purchased at Goodwill or garage sales.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn, to be good students and to make their families proud. Many of these kids are learning English as a second or even as a third language. Their families all work hard to provide for them, but many still struggle to cover basic needs such as housing, food and clothing. Students frequently come to school hungry and tired due to little resources in the home such as breakfast or a bed to sleep on. Many basic school supplies such as folders or gym shoes are not in the budget for our families.
Learning to read and write is challenging for many kids, but when English is new to you and resources are a struggle, it becomes even harder.
Please consider supporting these great kids reach their full potential.
My Project
What books did you enjoy as a teen? Babysitter's Club? Hardy Boys? Sweet Valley High? I loved heading to the school library each week and getting to pick out a new book. Our school is too small to have a school library. Many of our families don't have the financial resources to buy their children books or the vehicle to take them to the local library.
Having a selection of high interest books at their reading level in the classroom is imperative to help students to develop a love of reading.
This request will allow students to stay engaged during our sustained silent reading time each day. It will also provide added confidence for our weekly read aloud to the teacher or peer time by providing them exciting choices of material, both fiction and nonfiction. Many students have been struggling since we started school August 6 with becoming interested in our daily reading time due to lack of books in our room.
