Fill Our Cardinals' Gym
My students need a document camera and basketballs.
I am a physical education teacher in Oklahoma. We are trying to get our students to make better health choices. It's hard to do when there is no budget set aside for physical education. We want our kids to know we are invested in their health!
We are in one of the lowest income parts of city.
Many of our students come to school each day just so they can have two good meals. We provide free breakfast and lunch to all our students. I know there are many who come to school just to be loved by our staff. We take the time each day to make sure they know we do love them and want nothing but the best for them.
We have a new gym at our school, but no equipment to use!! We try to build lessons using hula hoops, cones and hockey sticks. There is only so much you can do with that! Having a few basketballs to use with our new nets will be great. We will actually be able to utilize some of our gym. The document reader will be used to present my students with a health lesson once a week. Instead of running off 500+ copies once a week, I can just show one paper and be able to teach the same lesson in less time!
There aren't many new things in our students lives.
We would love to allow them the experience of using brand new equipment. Most of the items in our gym have been there for ten or more years. Our jump ropes are being held together with duck tape. The basketballs are so old there is little to no grip left on the ball. My students will finally be able to have something new to play with, something they get to break out of the box!
