This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello! I am a second grade teacher who teaches at a Title I school. Being that my school's a Title I, the majority of the students that I serve live in poverty. However, regardless of my students' backgrounds and home situations, they do not let anything hold them back. They are energetic, creative, and intuitive!
It is my goal to provide my students with everything they need to be successful inside and outside of the classroom.
My students can do anything, and I will do anything to get them there!
My Project
Our students come in everyday ready to learn and excited about their day. Often times however, they also come in hungry. Our school provides free lunch to 100% of our students because of the need for nutritious, consistent, and filling foods but anything extra is left to teachers or parents to supplement.
As wonderful as our meal program is, my students are often left hungry in between meals without quality snacks at school or at home.
These snacks (crackers, pretzels, and applesauce) will provide both water and food in between meals at school. They will be eaten to keep us focused or sent home with students who do not have access to food at home.
We have the last lunch in the school, not eating until well after 12:00 pm and going so long without food is hard for my little ones. We eat snack each day at around 9:00, but many of my students do not come with anything in their backpacks. From this point on their minds tend to wander and they are unable to focus. I know that having access to these snacks will help them feel safe, loved, and focused at school.
