Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
For most students, being able to self-regulate their behavior in the classroom is normal. Some students need extra support in being able to learn how to self-regulate, identify, and control their emotions. When a student's behavior impedes their ability to learn or disrupts the learning environment of their fellow peers, it may be deemed necessary for a student to be placed in a more restrictive learning environment.
My classroom is a special day class that services students with identified behavior disorders.
In addition to teaching students English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, my program provides explicit social skills training in order to hopefully integrate our students back into a general education classroom.
My students are very funny and intelligent! They have difficulty focusing on a task for a long time, but what kid doesn't? They are full of energy and always excited to learn!
My Project
Reading is a fundamental skill all students need in order to succeed in school. In the age of iPads, computers, video games, and smartphones, holding students' attention with a book has become a challenge.
I need literature that will capture my students' attention!
I believe "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and "Charlotte's Web" will capture my students' attention long enough to teach skills such as reading comprehension, decoding mutli-syllable words, and fluency. In addition, there are movies that are attached to these classics. I have had a high rate of success capturing students' attention with books, when promises of movies are attached. I will do anything to strengthen my students' reading skills. Please help my class in our endeavors to become strong readers!
