As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty middle school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many struggle in both reading and math, and are reading at least two levels below their grade. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking for supplies to assist in helping all my students reach their full potential.
The students in my classroom are students with learning disabilities and behavior difficulties.
They like to move around, need lots of positive behavior intervention supports, and enjoy interactive activities. My students struggle to pay attention and need several accommodations and modifications. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control what happens outside my classroom, however, I can certainly control their experience in my classroom. By doing this in a positive way, I am hopeful to inspire all my students to try their hardest.
My Project
Many of my students have gaps in their math ability level. One of the most common gap is in math fluency. This causes the students to struggle in 5th and 6th grade when they have to apply the basic math facts to multi-step problems and word problems. Most of my students struggle with math basic operations around a 3rd grade level.
Being able to use the ETA hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit will help fill in the gaps, which will assist the students in being able to learn grade level math material.
The fluency kit is a quick small group way to teach skills that they can apply when solving problems. The Daily Math Fluency solution develops students' foundational math skills every day, skyrocketing their confidence in math and setting the stage for future success.
