Our school is a public four-year high school with a wide range of students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Approximately 35-40% of our student body participates in fine arts on some level. Offering our music students the chance to succeed is my top priority. We strive daily to make opportunities available for our high school students to further their musical skills and expand their horizons.
Students attending our school have earned recognition at the district, state, regional, and national level.
We have alumni working on Broadway, teaching college and public school music, and performing as professionals all over the world. Our music department has a 100+ year history of excellence, and we try every day to live up to that legacy. We offer jazz band, two levels of string orchestra, and concert band, pep band, and marching band. We also have strong choral, guitar, drama, and fine arts programs.
My Project
Our music program has received great support from our local community in recent years. Our students are thriving and finding ways to overcome the challenges associated with the new learning environment we find ourselves in. That being said, there are always items that we are not able to get through our regular school channels and DonorsChoose always makes it possible.
We are trying to fill in the gaps in our instrument inventory by acquiring a few necessary pieces of equipment and supplies that will help us focus on making music.
We have been without a working Bongo stand for over 10 years and it would be nice to be able to use them properly again. The tape is for wrapping fingers of students playing a lot of hand drum - it saves their knuckles! The plastic trumpet is just for Pep Band - we want to see if it is a viable alternative to taking expensive instruments into the gym and in harm's way. Belts are for concert attire - it is surprising how many young men do not have one when it comes time for a performance!
