Our school is home to over 2100 students and over 200 staff members. The centrally located library is the hub of learning for many students as we offer open access and flexible scheduling. We serve nearly 200 students as independent library users each day - before school, during study block, class, lunch, and after school. Furthermore, the library is used to teach classes, accommodate small and large group meetings, host speaker events, and numerous other activities and events.
Our students inspire us to create a library makerspace that fits the unique needs of many students with a variety of talents and abilities.
Our hope is to create a space that is engaging, student-centered, dynamic and promotes collaboration and creativity in which students feel safe and welcome.
My Project
The OLHS Makerspace houses two 3D printers that are openly available for the entire school to use. With the support of ITSs and LMSs, this self directed station allows students to explore their design skills and create their own 3D prototypes during their study blocks and lunch periods. Our supply of 3D printer filament, however, was diminished during the first month of the COVID stay at home order due to printing of PPE face shields to support the medical community. At this point, our students will not be able to continue printing their 3D designs until more filament is acquired.
Please help us replenish the 3D printer filament that was used and donated so that our students can continue designing and creating with the 3D printers.
We have many students who have put great effort into learning design programs and how to use the printer. We hope to be able to continue supporting these students and more students who want to learn about 3D printing despite the budget concerns for schools in the upcoming school year.
