This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are energetic, challenging at times, and concerned about the world they live in! One hundred percent of our school's population receives free or reduced-price lunch.
My students live in a highly populated, urban setting.
Many of them never venture outside of their own communities and have limited exposure to all our city has to offer. The majority of the students live in rental properties and apartments and, too often, single-parent homes.
All they really want is some hope! My students want to believe their dreams can come true just like anyone else's. Help be that hope in their lives. That's what I strive to do every day.
My Project
A file cabinet, file folders, and copy paper seem like weird items to request, but for a middle school teacher, organization is key. I like to house student portfolios in a location that is accessible for parent conferences or for students to look over and review their success and failures.
Basic supplies can assist with making a day run smoothly.
Students knowing where they go to access work they completed previously can keep time management on track. They do not have to ask you for everything. With a routine in place, students can access their portfolios and file their graded or scored papers.
