Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very special. Several of them have special needs and some have other behavioral challenges due to experiencing some level of trauma. Over 75 percent of our students live in poverty. Many of our students either currently are or have been homeless at some point, which is truly devastating. We also have a high percentage of students who are brand new to the country and don’t speak a word of English.
My grade level changes almost every year, and because of our population, I tend to purchase a lot of our classroom supplies.
Whatever puts a smile on their faces makes me happy! My goal is to make their six hours of school time as special as it can be. They are always grateful for the love and support they get, which is why I am always looking for ways to improve my instruction! I get a lot of hugs here!
My Project
My classroom is in need of a file cabinet so that I can safely keep track of my students personal information in individual files along with samples of their work for parent conferences. A locking file cabinet will also be very useful when it comes to safely storing my students as well as my own personal belongings such as cell phones, money, etc. Students are not allowed to have their cell phones on them during the day and leaving them in their backpacks sometimes results in theft, so this would be a great way to keep their valuables stored safely during the school day.
