Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Common Core is in full force. Our students are encouraged to think, share, problem solve, and create examples/prototypes to further expand their creations and thoughts. With that said, these requested filaments will allow my students the ability to create visuals to expand on their explanations.
Our students will use the 3D printer throughout the curriculum.
Project-based learning is an exceptional way to engage and instruct our students while allowing them the freedom to explore the different paths to get to the final product.
Many of my students' parents are migrant workers and in the fields. My students are always looking for the next great invention to help their parents out. As a project, our students will create a tool that would make peoples' job that much easier.
They will begin with an illustration, including dimensions and mechanical capabilities. They will then collaborate with their peers on the best way to prototype their idea, adjusting accordingly. The multiple filaments will allow them to create multiple prototypes and piece together as needed to demonstrate the function. They will then share their idea, in a Shark Tank similar setting, to the class.
Getting students engaged in computer science is key. Many of the jobs our students will hold when they get older have yet to be created. This project will use multiple computer programs and editing tools to interact with the 3D printer. Not only will students be printing a model of their creation, but they will be computer programming the specifics of their creation; Working out the "bugs" until it meets their qualifications. This problem solving strengthens their learning and allows them to apply their understanding of the material.
All of this can only be made possible if people like you help fund our project!
