My students are motivated aspiring artists. These young artists are eager to reach their full potential, but have a variety of obstacles in their way. The economic barrier which many of my students face is mainly low-income with over 70% qualifying for free or reduced lunch, thus making us a Title I school. I have a diverse group of students that come from all over Los Angeles County. These are hardworking students who are ambitious to grow academically and artistically. Our school has a dual mission to educate students in both academic subjects and the arts. They are college bound students who leave prepared for college and careers.
My Project
Students will be creating figure in motion sculptures in my Design class. This class is to prepare the students for taking AP (advanced placement) in the future.
These materials are basic ones, like tape, wire and glue, showing them that there is a lot of possibility in wire and casting material!
We have a never ending need for these materials, because they just don't last. These resources go so fast in my classroom! Students will be learning to paint through exercises, and also by working on their own artworks. These materials are necessary to learn to master creating 3D projects. Having enough paint, and other art supplies is a continual challenge for our busy art studio.
