I am a third-grade reading teacher at a low-income, Title I school in Port Arthur, Texas. My students face many challenges. Many of my students are living in poverty.
Despite their challenges, my students show up every day ready to learn.
They are eager and excited to come to school and learn new things. They walk through the door with big smiles, ready to give one-hundred percent each day. I want my classroom to be a safe and engaging environment for my students, to foster this love of learning.
My Project
The books that I have selected will allow my students to explore figurative language examples, such as alliteration, hyperbole, idioms, metaphors, onomatopoeia, personification, and similes. Learning figurative language is fun and exciting.
These engaging books will bring my students' creative writing to life.
My students will be able to identify the various forms of figurative language while engaging in these texts during small group and cooperative learning centers. Many of my ESL students struggle with understanding the meaning of figurative language. These selections will help them comprehend the meanings behind the words while connecting to the colorful illustrations and examples.
