My students need books written and illustrated by Dav Pilkey to help them learn to enjoy reading and begin to understand how to use figurative language.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
John F. Kennedy stated that, "All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talent." In order to teach my students and provide them with their opportunity to grow and develop their talents, books are a necessary component.
Our elementary school is a Title I School and all of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is located in a low, socioeconomic area and more than half of our students are from low income households. Despite having some disadvantages, my students are at school and ready to learn everyday.
I want to be able to provide them with everything they need to become productive students and make important contributions in school and the world as productive citizens.
My Project
Every year, as soon as I read the Dumb Bunnies books, they are the favorite books of all the students. They are the most worn out books in my classroom because they are so loved. These new books will allow me to throw away my books that are falling apart from all of the love and have new books to replace them.
If my children love these books enough to want to read them, that makes me happy as a teacher.
In addition to helping replace some of my books, these books will give my class some great read alouds to help them learn about figurative language and how it is used.
