My students need 64 subscriptions to TIME Magazine for Kids, and 15 subscriptions to Weekly Reader News to become well-educated citizens who make informed decisions.
When entering fifth grade some students do not even know who the President of the US is. Our goal is to educate students about the world around them today, and give them the tools to educate themselves in the future.
We have 64 students, in 2 classes, including 4 special needs students who need extra support.
Their needs range from still learning how to read, at age 10, to trying to figure out complex ideas and concepts about our world. In addition to our functional skills students, we work with students from a behavioral unit.
My Project
We are requesting 64 copies of Time Magazine for Kids so that our students may have the opportunity to learn how to read and analyze non-fiction text, interpret graphs, and become informed about the events happening within our society and within the world. In addition, we are requesting 15 copies of WR News so that we may put students into cooperative learning groups where we help them learn how to work together, communicate, and learn how to question what they read and how they learn.
Helping give our students the tools to educate themselves both today and in the future will help them become responsible citizens who empower themselves and our world by making informed decisions.
Edition 5 - 6 with Around the World (Grades 5 and 6) TIME For Kids is a weekly classroom newsmagazine that motivates kids to read. Issues cover a wide range of real-world topics and themes kids love to learn about and it s the best nonfiction text you ll find! Edition 5 - 6 builds non-fiction literacy skills and helps students become informed and active citizens. In addition to receiving Edition 5 - 6, subscribers will receive TFK Around the World.
