Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is composed of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as autism.
A typical day in my classroom looks active.
My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.
I teach in a Title I school.
My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful and full of excitement!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions!
They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow in every aspect of their learning. I am excited to provide an opportunity for them to continue in their learning.
My Project
My students will build financial literacy by earning classroom dollars. Their math skills increase by counting, exchanging and spending their dollars. I want to use positive motivation to help students grow through my classroom rewards store. Students earn points through classwork, grades, and behavior to shop at the store. Each month students are given a day to shop at the classroom store using the money they have earned. Students will have to balance, save, and budget for rewards they want! I am requesting gift cards from Starbucks, Old Navy, Panera, and Subway to help fill my classroom store. These items are awesome rewards the kids will want to save up to buy! I want to make sure I have enough gift cards so every student has the opportunity to save up their money to buy one.
By funding this project you will not only place a smile on a child's face, but you will also give them an opportunity to have something that they want when most of the time don't get and learn to make wise purchases.
Specific tangible rewards help students maintain their motivation and stay on task through the end of the school year.
Offering these gift cards as incentives will help students stay on track academically and behaviorally in order to be successful in school and life.
