Ms. Behe from Troy NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Fifth Graders Aligned!

My students need multiple copies of 5 children's books that are recommended by New York State and aligned with the new Common Core Curriculum, and these books are not available in our library.

My Students

Imagine being expected to learn how to drive without a car. My students have been given new expectations with the new Common Core Standards. The state has recommended several books that would work to address each standard, and our school does not have these books.

My students live in a small urban setting.

Many students come from single parent homes and depend on public assistance for food, clothing, and housing. These students want to learn, and sometimes, depending on a situation at home, lack of food or sleep, it can be difficult. Limited books in a classroom should not be an additional roadblock for the many that my students already face.

My Project

Books, all I'm asking for are books for my kids! These books are focused on and related to human rights stories. My goal is for my students to learn, tell, and write powerful stories about people's experiences. I would also love to encourage them to share their own powerful stories.

This project is so important to give these kids a chance to meet the state standards required by New York.

They all have the right to a solid education and a fair chance at success. Let's help my class be a part of reaching to the top.
