My students, as well as many others, are faced with challenges of being part of a school/classroom community that missed most of Kindergarten and most likely didn't get a chance to attend pre-k since Covid started during that time for this group. Students are back to school, but had to complete almost their whole Kindergarten year online. These students are now in First Grade and missed out on the most crucial learning creating some setbacks. They need some materials for a more hands-on, concrete way to learn.
My Project
These materials and resources will help students this year with the setbacks they are coming in with from almost 2 years worth of Covid, staying at home, and distance education in that important Kindergarten year. Many students learn all their social and emotional needs as well as fine and gross motor skills in Kindergarten. They weren't able to get all those skills from distance education.
We are asking for flexible seating to have an area to help them have a safe spot for social and emotional needs, as well as math and reading manipulatives to help them understand what they need to know.
This will help cover standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.1.2 which is 'Ask and answer questions about key details in a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media.' The manipulatives and reading cards will be used to get them back on track with standard CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2 which is 'Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).'
The white boards will be used daily for math. This will cover standard 1.OA.1 which is use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
