At my school, although 95% of students receive free lunch, families are expected to pay for field trips for their first graders. Many of the families are not be able to find the money and we had to leave 8-10 students at school while their classmates visited the pumpkin patch. Most of the 75 first grade students live in unstable environments with few educational experiences. All of the students deserve to go on these few field trips to broaden their life experiences. Your donation would fund the expense for each child to visit the Winston-Salem Children's Museum. The exhibits at the children's museum fit with our core curriculum in math, science and social studies. They will learn about patterns, graphing, the solar system, nature, motion, and how people lived in the past. Students will be able to enjoy hands-on activites that we can later discuss and write about in the classroom. Many of our students have never been to a museum, play, concert or zoo. Help these six-year-olds enjoy a life experience most grade-schoolers take for granted.
