Ms. Diaz from Pahokee FL is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need to visit St. Augustine to learn more about the history of the state of Florida, and the Kennedy Space Center to learn about space exploration and the story of humans in space.

Our students attend a Title I school on the shores of Lake Okeechobee, they face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. The school is located in a low-income/high poverty area, where many families are migrants and travel during the agricultural seasons. 98% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 1% White, 64% Black, and 34% Hispanic.
Eight years ago our school became an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.
Internationalism is celebrated through our hallways, school culture and our innovative units of inquiry. As an IB World School we teach our students to become global thinkers and learners. The school provides rigorous academics and a safe learning environment. We are striving to provide our students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My project will provide our students with an up close encounter of the history of Florida as well as enhance their knowledge about space exploration. We are organizing a field trip to St. Augustine, Florida and the Kennedy Space Center. This trip will allow our students to experience the culture and history of the state of Florida and the story of humans in space. History helps our students understand change and how the society we live in came into existence. Getting funds to pay for the bus will help us tremendously since we still have to raise money to pay for the tickets to enter the museums and other attractions. The bus is about 40% of the total cost.
By providing my students the opportunity to attend this trip, I hope to enrich their knowledge pertaining to the history of our state and the story of humans in space.
My students live in a very rural area and most do not travel beyond our community. It is crucial for our students to become knowledgeable and culturally aware of the world we live in so they will be exposed to the wonders of our globalized world.
