We need funding for a trip to Medieval Times, where we can travel back in time to the 11th century for a jousting tournament.
This project expired on April 29, 2016.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
About My Students
I am excited about this student-led project because my students developed their own ideas, and were able to formulate a plan of action. Medieval Times is the perfect venue for my students to learn about the history of knights, horsemanship, chivalry, and life during the 11th century.
My students developed this project idea by brainstorming in the classroom. They know I have been using DonorsChoose.org for a while now, and my students were excited when I invited them to be part of the process. Their favorite thing to do is take field trips, and they started talking about their interest in taking a “non-boring” trip to learn more about history. With a little research, my students chose the Medieval Times’ Lyndhurst Castle for their adventure.
Field trips are so important because they bring classroom curricula to life. Medieval Times is a great venue for learning more about history in an entertaining atmosphere. The other benefit of taking a field trip is allowing my students to show me how well they can behave in public. Many of my pupils profess they behave better when they’re not in school (which I know to be true), and leaving the school building gives me a glimpse of their conduct beyond the classroom.
In Their Own Words
My name is Joseph and I love history. I have always wanted to visit Medieval Times, but never had the opportunity. I love that Ms. S always tries to take us on adventures, and this time we actually get to pick where to go. I told my teacher that I want to study history in college, and this will help me learn about the medieval time period.
I am taking the lead on this project by researching and creating the project proposal, contacting the venue to make sure they can accommodate our class, and setting everything up once this project is funded. That means I will be creating and handing out permission slips, and calling Lyndhurst Castle to set up the date for our trip. I really hope this works!
My friends and I love to take field trips, but it’s difficult to pay for them. Most of us live in Section 8 housing, shelters, group homes, and foster homes. We need help paying for this trip to enhance our learning. Thank you so much for reading our proposal.
