The children of Clark Street Elementary School in Henderson, North Carolina, rarely have the opportunity to take a field trip that is educational as well as complimentary to their Physical Education Curriculum. As one of the 1st and 2nd grade team teachers, I know it can be difficult to obtain money from home for our field trips. Over 95% of the student population is on the "Free and Reduced" lunch program and obtaining money for field trips can be very difficult. Clark Street Elementary is a Title 1 school and serves a very transient population as families are moving between low income housing options. Our 1st and 2nd grade students, through our Physical Education Program would love to attend the Durham Bulls Education Day. The Durham Bulls are the Triple A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays of Major League Baseball. During Education Day, the children will be able to experience interactive Learning Stations throughout the park which will show the importance of proper nutrition and exercise for a healthy lifestyle. Select students will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to interview actual Bulls' players about the importance of education and what it is like to be a professional athlete. After the Education Day festivities end, the Bulls will play an actual game for every student to attend. For many of our 1st and 2nd Graders at Clark Street, this may be the only time that they are able to interact with professional athletes and see a live baseball game.
