Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This year we are taking the opportunity to focus on boosting our student athletic performance by increasing students' physical activity level. Our school is classified as Title I (high poverty) and state tests identify our students as low-performing. The student-athletes at our school really enjoy playing for the sports teams. Research has shown that students that play sports tend to do better in school. Student-athletes must maintain a Grade Point Average to continue to play sports. Research has also stated that if the students continue to play sports in high school, the student-athletic graduation rate is higher than a student that does not play sports. Again the reason being the student-athlete must maintain that GPA during their high school years as well.

My Project

The donations to the project will make a difference for our team in so many ways. The BSN Sports Diamond Digger Field groomer with the drag mat will help in so many ways. For example, the drag that we once owned was stolen, which in turn caused our field to go untouched for months. Anyone that knows about baseball knows the field must be maintained constantly. So right now any time it rains the field will have puddles from first base to second base and third base. Unfortunately we have cancelled some games because of the condition of the fields.

Also by donating to this project, it will show the kids that someone cares about them as well.

We teach paying it forward, so in the future, the students may be the ones that donate to another project. Most recently the baseball team was featured on Good News, talking about the fact someone had taken equipment, and what it would mean to have someone donate things to them and how they would cherish it like their own.

Another item on the project that we need would be the Gill High Jump Multi-Bar Attachment (2). The Bar Attachment would make it so much easier for us during track Meets. We host most of the meets in our Conference because of the conditions of some of the other tracks. It is very hard to see our high jump numbers. With the Multi-Bar Attachment, it would help in a huge way.
