This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our high school is located in southwest Philadelphia. Our school is 7-12, with about 650 students currently enrolled. Our student body is made up of over 95% African Americans with more than 70% of these students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
The students/student-athletes who I serve are some of the hardest working young men and women I’ve encountered.
They take care of siblings, parents, and grandparents, and a few even have jobs. I would like to provide as much as I can to help these young men and young women be productive members of society.
My Project
Our school finally has varsity sports and we will be competing in the PIAA as an independent school for the first time. As the head track and field coach I wanted my athletes to have top of the line equipment as the season approaches.
I had a large number of students express interest in throwing the shot put or disc and I wanted them to have the chance to compete with the top athletes in the Public league and the state.
With the competition shot put and disc, they will be able to practice every day to sharpen their skills. Thank you in advance.
