Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a physical education & health teacher at a school in NJ. The school staff and I want to put together a field day that our students will look forward to and remember as the most talked about event of the school year. My goal is to put on a field day that these students will remember and look forward to every year. I want them to enjoy the day so much that it becomes the most looked forward day to of the year. There are 700+ students at this school.
My students do not have it easy, and many are put in situations where they must grow up faster than life may have planned.
However, they still come to school with the most postive attitudes and try to align themselves with strong role models to help them make the right choices. These kids deserve to be kids, even if it is just for one day. They deserve to have fun and let loose, not worry about the troubles at home, and understand that this school and these teachers have their best interest at heart.
My Project
The equipment I've chosen are for more carnival based events such as the potato sack race, team builders such as the plank race, and scooters. We as a staff have taught our students multiple team sports that will also be included in field day, and for those events we have what we need for our students to participate. However, when it comes to team building games and "carnival events" we don't have much.
These are games where the whole class will be able to participate.
You don't have to be the most athletic to succeed, and students who normally aren't "leaders" in physical education class will have the opportunity to do so. That's what is most important to us as a staff, to give each student the opportunity to enjoy themselves fully. It's not about winning and loosing; it's about forgetting about troubles at home, and having fun with friends, teachers, and as a school, as a whole.
