My preschool students are energetic, curious, tender-hearted, 4- and 5-year-olds who thrive on learning. They are part of a state-run program called The Great Start Readiness Program that helps children who are considered high risk. Our district also now provides free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch for all elementary students because of the local median income. While helping them overcome, we find ways to help prepare them for kindergarten and help them develop a love for learning that will grow throughout their academic careers.
Walk into our classroom, and you will hear music, laughter, and conversations that will fill your heart with joy.
You may also get a bit messy because hands-on learning is our thing! We focus on developing literacy, mathematical, and social skills through supported play. In order to maintain an academically rich environment, we have to provide the students with materials that they can use to explore and manipulate to practice higher thinking skills.
My Project
When it comes to preschool we have some pretty active 4 year olds! Sometimes they are running, spinning, jumping, or skipping. One this is for sure though, they are always moving! Our focus this year has been to help promote gross motor development while we are stuck inside on these frigid, winter days. To meet the needs of our students we are looking to add some more gross motor and coordination materials into our classroom.
The resources that we are asking for will help strengthen their core muscles which can help with pre-writing skills and can help them maintain focus.
Another hope for our classroom is to have a field day at the end of our Transition to Kindergarten unit. We are hoping that we are able to receive these materials to help make our field day full of gross motor development and fun.
