My students come from many different backgrounds, with many new transfer students throughout the year. For some students, school is the most safe, welcoming and loving place they know.
Despite all of my kids challenges; whether it is from poverty, violence in their neighborhood, or learning challenges, they show up and do the best they can every day.
Working in an urban environment definitely poses challenges, but once students "break" their barriers in learning math, the look on their faces says it all!
I want to improve the daily coping skills for all of my students and enhance their educational experience. We all know, the more education they get, the more opportunities they will have in the future.
Today's students have external stimuli stemming from electronics, social media, family situations, societal situations, and increased pressure to succeed in school and life.
Students who have a variety of external stimuli need ways to help them focus when they are fighting to avoid non-desired tasks in school. Tools for fidgeting are proven to help students to release built up energy and allows them to focus on the tasks at hand.
There are many tools for assisting students to stay focused on the days lesson and to help them be successful in school. These bouncy bands will add to the assistive technologies I am trying to build into my classroom.
