I teach literacy and social studies to twenty-eight of the hardest working students I have ever had the joy to teach. The last time my current students had a normal school year was their first grade year. These students have had two official quarantines since September 2021 and several have had additional quarantines because of family, community or bus exposures.
My students are actually upset when they have to be home on quarantine and they truly miss being in school.
This group values their education and are eager to learn even when the topic is hard and takes extra effort. The majority do all of their quarantine work regardless of what is happening at home. They are joy to teach!
My Project
Students fidget and wiggle and dance all day long. Add in long quarantine breaks at home where they have been able to easily work standing up, rocking, running around the house and cartwheeling through the living room and it becomes even more challenging to sit still and listen to directions, lessons and educational videos when inside the classroom. To embrace my students and meet them where they are, I want to introduce wobble stools to the classroom. Wobble stools will allow my students to safely rock and wobble in an appropriate way that doesn't disrupt learning. I am excited to offer this alternative to students!
