My students are a group of creative, eager to learn, kind, and hardworking kids. The students in my class all come from different backgrounds including their socioeconomic status, religion, race, parent involvement, and so much more. This mix of students comes together to make a welcoming classroom community that has understanding and empathy for one another.
The students in my classroom are collaborators that have a desire to grow in their learning.
They work together to help one another be the best student they can be when whey enter our classroom.
My Project
My classroom is currently filled with 26 first graders sitting at 26 desks. By the end of the long school day, they are wiggling out of their seats. Research shows that when students are comfortable, they learn more.
Just like we don't teach all kids the same way because we know they don't all learn the same way, we can't expect them all to sit the same way.
These different seating options will allow students to find the option that works best for their learning. I will use the stools and balls as options for kids at a table. They will also have options on the floor with items that we already have in our classroom. We will use the bins to store each child's supplies, as they will no longer have a designated desk to store their items in.
The students will be able to use these flexible seating options all throughout the day. This will help their comfort and focus during reading, math, science, social studies, etc.
