Mrs. Ross from Columbia SC is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need places to sit that allow them to move, grove, and concentrate. Children are fidgety, so we have to create ways to let them move without disturbing others.

The students in my school are from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. Our school population is comprised of about 70% African American students, 29% Hispanic students, and 1% of a variation of nationalities. Almost 100% of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are very active and full of energy which means they need a way to move around while they learn.
As a first year teacher, I have found my students to be fidgety, always wanting to walk around, go to the bathroom, or do things just so that they can move around. Traditional seating has not worked for my students and I do not believe it is the best option. My students need to wiggle, fidget, and move in order for them to stay engaged in their learning. Children today get bored easily and my students are no different. They need something in the classroom that keeps their learning fun and exciting.
These materials will allow my students to get their fidgets out without disturbing others. It will also help my students stay concentrated on their work throughout the long school day. Brain breaks, and dance videos are great for that moment, but my classroom is in need of way for students to move without having to stop their work.
Yes, we are in school, but we have to remember we are teaching children.
There are not many children that I have encountered that can sit and do their work for long periods of time without getting bored or being mentally drained. Despite this fact, we have a lot of teaching and learning to do throughout the school year. Flexible seating will help my students concentrate, stay focused, keep their learning experience fun and exciting, and give them the opportunity to move and learn.
